Let me not fall
into that temptation
to harry,
as I am harried.
There is space in your womb
for peace;
reborn a Peacebringer,
I will be
a still calm space.
For now, in this time
of my conception,
let me breathe.
Let me breathe
This poem reflects where the readings during morning prayer took me today. The readings, and the particular parts that struck me, were:
defend my cause against an ungodly people… Why do I go so heavily…
Psalm 43
rise, and pray that you may not enter into temptation…
Luke 22:39-46
And soon all of us will sleep under the earth, we who never let each other sleep above it.
“I Know The Truth”, Marina Tsvetaeva
I don’t take ‘ungodly people’ to mean anyone who doesn’t share my particular brand of religion. It brings to mind those whose lives don’t bear the marks I’ve come to associate with a godly life; peace and joy and love. Constant hurry, and exerting pressure on others, to move at a speed of your own choosing.; for me this is one of the directions my life was heading when I didn’t know God. If I think of this life as a womb, in which I may grow, how much control can I exert over who I might become?
