Fonts of Slaithwaite in September

With the repaired Canon AE-1 Program, and a secondhand 28mm f2.8 lens, I spent an afternoon on my bicycle around Slaithwaite and then nipped into Huddersfield for a coffee to finish off the roll. I was using Porta 160 iso film and trying to see architectural details. I wasn’t too bothered about losing context, because I found I was trying to make pictures – if that makes sense to anyone. I seem to have been drawn to the fonts on signs this time…

The Silent Woman has finally closed, a mixture of problem drinking and then falling numbers of visitors. The land next to it is being turned into a building plot, and the pub will no doubt be repurposed eventually.

A back lane in Slaithwaite which my wife and I call “little Cornwall” as the white painted cottages and steeply sloped path leave us feeling like we’re walking down to the coast.

Ever since the Toy Story movie, I’ve wanted a Toyota pickup so I could paint out the lettering to leave the word “YO”.

The Civic Hall, lettering has seen better days…

I do like the Town Hall lettering, but the building is so far away from the centre of business that no one really notices it.

I love the scale of this wall. A small sign reads, “Station Road”, but the tracks run nearly overhead as they approach one of the many railway viaducts on this steep sided bit of the Colne valley. Later, moving into Huddersfield for a coffee, and finishing off the roll of film, I found these buildings down a narrow alley…
