Slipping through Advent

No, it wasn’t the drink.

When I first started using a film camera again, I made a load of mistakes and one was to load the film badly – so that the perforations tore and my entire 36 photographs were overlaid on the same 35mm piece of film. Thankfully it was night and the result was a joy to me.

This winter I wanted to try some intentional double exposures, and a method I read about was to slip the clutch while winding the film on. This isn’t a precise technique, so framing photographs and expecting predictable results just wasn’t going to work. However, with film photography, serendipity is my friend. I think of it as intentional serendipity. In many ways the following photographs are a mess – but they have brought a smile to my face in the gloom of winter.
