Rural Mission in the Diocese of Durham

Notes from the Rural Mission Task Group meeting on the 14th July 2026.

Minutes:

  1. Opened with prayer. We played a creative thinking game to start
  2. Review of Graeme’s activities:
    a. Visiting rural parishes
    i. RMTG developing a list of rural contacts
    ii. Challenges of making appointments
    b. Sharing faith in rural context (experience)
    c. Mission grant / video making
    d. Meeting notes from time with Durham’s Strategic Lead for Mission, and questions on measuring success
  3. Guest spoke about the concept and leadership of a Teesdale church plant he is involved with, and the challenges ahead, i.e. how to be missional.
  4. The RMTG group decided they didn’t need a SMART objective, as their goal is to hold GH accountable and be supportive of GH wherever possible – sharing ideas and contributing to actions where possible.
  5. We decided we want to get to know each other better and thought a lunchtime meeting would give us a chance to talk more broadly about our experiences and hopes for rural mission.
  6. Next meeting 18th August – lunchtime meeting – bring a picnic. Diocese office.
  7. Closed with prayer.
