Enquirer’s course – episode four

No one came to Cowshill. Two people came to Eastgate. Four people came to Stanhope… I was excited to see who would come to Frosterley. Frosterley is where the Vicarage is, but there is no longer a church building here: it was sold to a private buyer as the CofE church was no longer viable. Does this mean faith is irrelevant in Frosterley? There is a regular Breakfast Church run by the local Methodists… so I’m sure there is faith here… and perhaps curiosity from others…

It was a sunny evening, and I took my juggling clubs down to the village hall early, so that I could set up and entertain myself while I waited to see who would come along.

I’d been juggling for about 20 minutes when I realised no one was coming.

What I found hard this evening was that people in the street seem interested in speaking to the Vicar… but when the Vicar creates space for conversation no one comes. I have been thinking about the barriers that exist for people to be curious about their soul, and I’ve popped a grant application infor some audio-visual equipment so I can make some videos that could be shared locally.
