A light shines in the darkness

God so loved the world that he sent his only son in order that we might have life, and that in abundance. Yet this free gift of abundant life is not forced on anyone, and often humanity’s fear of death is what keeps us holding on to the comforts of today – no matter how fleeting or cheap those comforts are.

From dust we came, and to dust we will return – this is the story of humanity without God. The hope of Christ is that our lives are treasured, and that we are offered this hope we may be drawn out of darkness and distress into this marvellous love.

Seek the Lord while he may be found,
   call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake their way,
   and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them,
   and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
